Explanation:
The
reason for my request is that I recently moved to Canada about 7 months ago,
and when I went to the mall to buy some things for my new house, I saw a notice
in the parking lot warning about car theft. Later, when I visited my friend's
apartment building, I saw the same notice at the entrance of their parking lot.
This made me realize that car theft is a problem in the area, so I decided to
request this information to get an idea of the crime's severity in the
vicinity.
Great FOI request. The signage in Surrey Central warning people about car theft is everywhere. It would be interesting to know if these signs are warranted. I'm wondering why you only asked for 6 months of data instead of more, like a year?
ReplyDeleteAsking for more will make it more broad and intense, that's why i requested for 6 months to make more complex and easier.
ReplyDeleteThe issue you are requesting is an interesting issue, because moving to Canada also I have heard few cases of car theft. One thing I feel is missing is the report of places this car theft is mostly happening.
ReplyDeleteA thoughtful request based on real-life observation. Twenty years ago Surrey was called the car crime capital of North America, so it would be interesting to see how it ranks now. I see only one proofreading error, "verion" instead of "version" in the third sentence.
ReplyDeleteYour topic is quite interesting and also helps the govt. to improve the security services but the only thing i found missing is you asked for a very small period of time and you did not gather or mention any website information in the end.
ReplyDeleteHello Ibraheem, this ATI request was well done. It's great that you provided a specific time frame for the documents being requested. However, I think you could have been more specific about the type of car theft going on such as whether it is attempted car theft, theft of the actual car, or theft of items in the car. I think this would help the RCMP provide you with exactly the data you are looking for.
ReplyDeleteGood job on your information request! The topic you've chosen is very interesting since I've been seeing similar warnings. I really liked how the formatting of your request was easy to read and quick to the point. I agree with Nafisa that specifying what type of car theft can help narrow down the information you're looking for and can provide some more insight. Overall great job!
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing your concern with crime in Surrey Central! I read an article back in October about Surrey being ranked the most dangerous city in Canada (based on a crime index). I liked that you are asking specifically about the Surrey Central area instead of all of Surrey. I also agree with Nafisa's suggestion for asking for details on the type of car theft.
