CIGARETTE SMOKING SHOULD REMAIN LEGAL IN CANADA

Cigarette smoking has been a contentious issue for decades, with advocates for banning cigarettes citing health concerns, while those in favor of retaining their legality often emphasize personal freedom and economic benefits.

In Canada, there have been discussions about whether cigarette smoking should remain legal, with some calling for a ban on the grounds of public health. However, despite the many arguments for prohibiting cigarette smoking, there are compelling reasons why it should remain legal.

Cigarettes keeping should be legal and personal freedom and should not restrain people from their choices. Individuals have the right to decide for themselves whether to smoke cigarettes or not, just as they have the right to make decisions about what they eat or how they choose to spend their leisure time. A ban on cigarette smoking would be a violation of personal freedom and could be seen as an example of government overreach.

Another point for keeping cigarettes legal is the economic impact of a ban. Banning cigarettes would have a significant negative impact on the economy, including job losses in the tobacco industry and decreased tax revenue for the government.

The tobacco industry provides jobs for many Canadians also its here to stay, and a ban on cigarettes would result in significant job losses, particularly in rural areas where tobacco farming is a significant part of the economy. Moreover, cigarettes are subject to high taxes, which generate substantial revenue for the government. A ban on cigarette smoking would result in a significant reduction in tax revenue, which could have a detrimental impact on government services.

Prohibiting cigarettes could also create a black market for them, which could be even more harmful than smoking regulated cigarettes. People who want to smoke cigarettes would still find ways to obtain them, and a black market for cigarettes could emerge, resulting in unregulated and potentially unsafe products. Such black markets could also encourage criminal activity and put people at risk of harm. It would be better to regulate the sale and distribution of cigarettes and ensure that they are safe and legal products, rather than driving them underground.

In conclusion, while cigarette smoking is certainly not without its risks, there are compelling reasons why it should remain legal in Canada. Prohibiting cigarette smoking would be a violation of personal freedom and would have a significant negative impact on the economy. Moreover, a ban on cigarettes could create a black market, which could be even more harmful than regulated cigarettes. Instead of imposing a ban, efforts should be focused on public health campaigns and resources for those who want to quit smoking. It is also important to maintain a consistent approach to regulating products that have negative health impacts.

Finally, it is worth noting that there are many other legal products that are known to be harmful, such as alcohol and junk food. It would be inconsistent to ban cigarettes while allowing these other products to remain legal. If the goal is to protect public health, then there should be a consistent approach to regulating all products that have negative health impacts. Banning cigarettes while allowing other harmful products to remain legal would be hypocritical.

  1. Smart use of the black market argument, I believe that's one that some economists use. The start of the fifth paragraph in your argument is a bit confusing and I'm not entirely sure what its trying to say.

  2. I like the fact that you spoke on how banning and prohibiting of cigarette would create black market and which can lead to different activity. I feel if you could evaluate a particular area to back it up more.

To make this post stronger I would recommend going over some spelling mistakes and grammar issues, and also include some statistics and other articles to back up some of the points you have made. Other than that, good job!

  6. Nice topic!! I really liked the point you used for the black market as well as the picture you used for this argument. A small thing I would consider is maybe changing the size of your fonts so that it doesn't look too cluttered. Other than that, great job on your argument!!

  7. This was an interesting topic with equally interesting arguments, using the idea of black marketing was also a smart choice that really gave this topic a strong point.
